The Awards hosted by comedian, actor and director Richard Ayoade, who is well known for his role in The IT Crowd on Channel 4, was broadcast live to over 1,100 people, celebrating winners across 25 ARROWS and 21 CRAFT categories.
Commercial of the Year was won by ‘Bounce’, made for Apple Air Pods by TBWA/Media Arts Lab and Pulse Films. Agency of the Year was awarded to AMV DDBO and Production Company of the Year was awarded to Pulse Films. A special category was introduced during the pandemic to allow work created during the first lockdown to be recognised; The Made in Lockdown – Campaign winner was BBC, Bringing Us Closer, made by BBC Creative Studio and The Made in Lockdown – Single winner National Centre for Domestic Violence, Abusers Always Work From Home by Wunderman Thompson and Stink Films. The Arrows also presented a short film featuring all the shortlisted work in this category. The film was a unique collaboration with The Elements Music and Create Not Hate reflecting on the year in and out of lockdown.
Clare Donald and Jani Guest, Arrows co-chairs, said of the event: “The past year has been turbulent for all of us, but we are delighted to have finally had the opportunity to recognise and award the wonderful work created in 2019. It was particularly incredible to see the response to the Made in Lockdown category and the brave work that was produced during such challenging times. Tonight, we had the pleasure to be on stage, at a safe distance of course and were able to shine a light on the remarkably beautiful work that was long overdue its recognition. We hope to see everyone back at The Grosvenor House in March 2022 for another triumphant night.”
Over the past 44 years, The British Arrows has celebrated the best work the entire moving image advertising industry has to offer. The 2020 Awards were delayed by an entire year due to the Covid pandemic. The British Arrows would like to thank the entire industry for the incredible support in helping us to ensure the awards could go ahead and be preserved for future generations.
